 BOOKMOBILES 

 Bookmobiles

During 2017 PIER's two bookmobiles

  • Visited all 31 Roatan public primary schools every 3 weeks.
  • Loaned 18,257 books to 2,191 students, for a total  of 18,262 student visits.

Stories-in-a-Bag

Education Specialists travel with the bookmobile visiting classes,

  • Reading stories
  • Leading hands-on activities in reading, math, and science tied to that story
  • Modeling creative teaching strategies for classroom teachers. 

RESULTS

  • 2,365 Story-in-a-Bag presentations in 241 classrooms for grades 1- 6.  
  • 96% of teachers evaluated the program as "very helpful".

                             SAND CASTLE LIBRARY

In 2017 our Sand Castle Library  had over 3,000 visits from 300 children, youth, and adults.  In addition to traditional library services, library offers:

  • Individual and group tutoring
  • Homework help
  • Computer classes
  • Board and computer games, movie time
  • Minecraft world with multiple players.
  • Daily science and math challenges.
  • English classes.

Children and youth who attend regularly read at least 30 minutes each visit, keep a book log, and share stories with other visitors.
